“The Great Resignation” not only has employees examining their lives and what they want out of their careers, but it also has a lot of businesses giving serious consideration to how they conduct business and take care of their employees. But salary is still as important as ever. And in today’s world, software engineers and coding bootcamp grads can expect to demand a high one. In this post, we’re focusing on software engineer salaries in the Washington D.C. area, taking a look at the companies paying software engineers and Washington D.C. coding bootcamp grads the most and offering the most interesting benefits and perks.
Juniper has a great mix of salary, benefits, and perks. The company started embracing remote work years ago with several employees praising the tech company’s remote policies back in 2018.
D.C. Salary Average: $152,000

Meta is not just one of the best-paying companies in the region, it’s also loaded with benefits and perks. Besides offering the typical insurance and 401k, Meta is moving toward more benefits that take family and mental health into consideration, such as additional paid sick days for each child an employee has. The company doesn’t allow full-time remote work but is flexible with employee schedules.

Solid pay, benefits, and perks make Samsung a dependable choice for employment in the D.C. region. But if remote work is a top priority, Samsung may not be the company for you. . The pandemic has forced Samsung to expand its remote work options, but the company’s site still touts its FlexPlace program, which only allows for four days outside the office per month. Employees are also allowed to leave early on Fridays in the summer.

Also stacked with a solid lineup of benefits and perks, Intuit offers a decent average salary and the ability to work at home a little over half of the time. Intuit based its remote work decisions on a survey of almost 10,000 employees, which showed that a majority preferred a hybrid model for collaborative work.

When it comes to benefits and perks, Google is a company that takes a more traditional route but has added on a few perks. It’s a good company to pick in the D.C. area for anyone who’s most interested in salary and remote work. Google doesn’t guarantee remote work but has approved over 85% of requests as it looks to create a hybrid model.

Capital One has a healthy balance when it comes to pay, benefits, and remote work. The company has decided that all employees will be remote on Mondays and Fridays. The company encourages its workers to return to the office Tuesday-Thursday for collaborative reasons. However, employees can speak with supervisors about being granted 100% remote work.

Amazon continues to grow its HQ2 presence in Arlington, Va., just across the Potomac from D.C. The company has been very open to remote work. This comes with the caveat that employees should be able to come into the office on occasion. This gives much more flexibility to find an affordable area to reside, and it’s possible to obtain a significantly higher salary with more experience. The company also has benefits and perks that are slightly better than average.
