We learn so much from our alumni community, and taking opportunities to check in with them is a big priority, especially in an evolving, fast-paced tech market. This year, we conducted an alumni survey, asking questions about current roles, promotions, salaries, job satisfaction, and hopes and concerns for the future.
Their feedback fuels our commitment to continuous improvement, ensuring that our Beginner and Intermediate Coding Bootcamps provide the training and community needed to thrive in a long-lasting tech career.
In this post, we’ll explore the top insights from the 2024 Hack Reactor Alumni Report, which covers responses from 1,200+ graduates living in 37 U.S. states and 20 countries worldwide, all of whom graduated within the past 10 years.
Software Engineer Salary: Many grads reach six-figure incomes over time, on average
According to survey results (including people who graduated between 2014-2024), Hack Reactor graduates earn an average of $162,055 per year, confirming that software engineer salaries are lucrative and can grow with professional experience.
Growing salaries often coincide with promotions; 48% of respondents have been promoted at least once since graduation, including 23% who now work in leadership positions. These results demonstrate that our alumni are skilled and educated enough to increase their professional responsibility and become leaders in their organizations. In turn, this lends credibility to the efficacy of our bootcamps, which help students build the skills they need to not only get an entry-level position but to become key drivers and decision-makers as they advance in their careers.
And they’re getting hired by companies across various industries including healthcare, entertainment, retail, finance, and others. According to the survey, respondents were hired by 672 different companies and organizations.
Hack Reactor grads feel prepared for their jobs
Our bootcamps prioritize career readiness, offering comprehensive job search training and interview preparation, from personal branding and resumes to networking and post-graduation support. We ensure our curriculum stays current with routine updates that reflect industry trends and emerging technologies.
Regarding the curriculum, 70% of respondents said the Hack Reactor curriculum was “well prepared” or “very well prepared” for their initial role after graduating.
Additionally, a whopping 87% of survey respondents say they’re currently satisfied with their role in the workplace. We know that preparation, combined with hard work and dedication, can lead to lasting job satisfaction and career advancement.
